This jacket is based on the design of a Japanese National Railways jacket made in 1946, and is made using old Japanese striped indigo-dyed cloth.
The fabric used was unraveled and used as futons at the time. It dates from the Meiji to Taisho eras, and considering that even the sewing thread was made of hemp thread, it may be a slightly older cloth.
Because cotton could not be grown in the Tohoku region, hemp (hemp) cloth was widely distributed. The definition of Nanbu hemp is not certain, but it is defined as hemp fabric made from cannabis found in Iwate Prefecture. I also heard that there were many striped fabrics, so this may be a typical fabric that was widely distributed at the time.
It has a unique texture with the swaying movement that only hemp can provide, and the fabric woven with thick threads has a heavy feel, and the texture that feels like it's falling under the weight of the fabric is something special.
Compared to today's prosperous times, people were poor and that was all they had, and the world was completely different from what was expected of them. I feel it.
The front buttons are made of old French vegetable ivory, and the power buttons are made of vintage Ciel buttons, each of which is attached by hand with a neck wrap. The buttonholes and button closures are hand-sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. I think you can feel something like warmth that cannot be produced by a machine.
Cotton thread is used to match the vintage atmosphere.
I think that Japanese fabrics are good fabrics with a carefully crafted expression that can be proud of around the world. Please feel the fabric that has been reborn as a jacket .
Try incorporating good old things into your daily life that don't exist in modern times.
*This work was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You might not be able to tell at first glance, but we hope you enjoy the "fluctuation"-like seams that are produced by hand rather than electric power.
*This is a fabric that is over 100 years old. In order to enjoy it for a long time to come, please soak it in the wash before washing, and spin it gently by placing it in a net for dehydration.
Please feel free to contact noraadd.1118@gmail.com for any inquiries regarding the work .
