This bag was created using indigo-dyed old Japanese linen cloth, with the design source being a bag used by postal workers.

The fabric is a kimono that was woven in a striped pattern from the Meiji to Taisho eras, with indigo-dyed threads made from linen (hemp) and white threads made from cotton.

Although it contains cotton, the fabric is woven by hand using thick threads with a loose and flowing feel that is unique to linen, giving it a heavy feel and a unique atmosphere that is not found in modern times.

Compared to today's prosperous times, people were poor and that was all they had, and the world was completely different from what was expected. I feel it.

The inner fabric is also made from old linen cloth, just like the outer material.

The buttons on the flap are old Japanese wood buttons dyed with ink, and the buttons on the small pocket that attach when the flap is opened are also the same. The inside pocket uses old shell buttons.

The buttonholes and button closures are hand-sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. I think you can feel something like warmth that cannot be produced by a machine.

The shoulder belt is designed to be fastened by passing it through a hole and tying it. You can adjust it to your desired length by tying the knot.

Japanese old cloth tends to have a strong image of Japanese clothing, but when you look at the fabric without being bound by that stereotype, you realize that Japanese fabric is a wonderful fabric that can be proud of to the world and is made by hand.

*This work was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You might not be able to tell at first glance, but we hope you enjoy the loose seams that are produced by hand rather than electric power.
