This bag was made using vintage Japanese indigo-dyed cloth, with the design inspired by bags used by postal workers.

The fabric used is an old indigo-dyed hemp and cotton cloth woven around the Meiji to Taisho period.

The striped vintage fabric used on the flap is roughly hand-woven cotton with thick threads, and the plain indigo-dyed fabric used on the main body is also hand-woven hemp/cotton vintage fabric. The threads used for this vintage fabric are thick, but the warp threads are hemp (hemp), and the weft thread is made of three threads twisted together to make one, two of which are cotton and one of which is hemp. It's rare. It makes me think that Japanese vintage fabrics are endlessly fascinating. The inclusion of cotton gives it a slightly fuzzy, somewhat rough, rugged and unique look.

Both fabrics exude an atmosphere not found in modern times, and are wonderful fabrics with a sense of weight. The fabrics still have tension, and the indigo dye is still strong, so you can enjoy the changes in texture as well as the dye as you wear them.

In order to preserve the texture of the outer fabric, the lining is also made of old linen cloth, and all other small parts are also made of old linen cloth.

The buttons on the flap and the small pocket that is attached when the flap is opened are made from old Japanese ink-dyed wood buttons, and the inner pockets feature old shell buttons.

The buttonholes and bar closures are hand sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. You can feel the warmth that can't be achieved by machine.

The shoulder strap is designed to be tied by passing it through a hole. You can adjust the length to your liking by changing the position of the knot.

Compared to today's affluent times, the look of fabrics born in harsh times when poverty was all they had and the norms of the world were completely different gives them a unique atmosphere that could not be created even if one wanted to, and I think Japanese fabrics are wonderful, elaborate fabrics that can be proudly shown off around the world. Please try and feel the fabrics that have been reborn as bags.

*This piece was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You may not notice it at first glance, but I hope you enjoy the loose stitches that can only be achieved by hand, not by electric.

*This fabric is nearly 100 years old. In order to enjoy it for many years to come, we recommend that you wash it by soaking it in water and spin-dry it gently in a laundry net.
