This bag was created using the fabric of large hemp bags from the 1950s in Japan, with the design source being the bags used by postal workers.
The material used was a large linen bag made in the 1950s after the war, although it is unclear what it contained. It has a smooth and moving texture that is unique to linen, and there are some light stains here and there from being used at the time, but it is finished with some nice seasoning stains. (It's hard to see in the photo, but there are stains from that time on the front and back of the flap.)
Personally, I found it to be acceptable, and it had a nice, mature feel to it, which I liked.
The lining uses the same fabric as the outer material. Since they are all made from the same cloth, it may look simple at first glance, but I think the bag has a distinctly old-world feel.
The flap buttons are old French shell buttons, the small pocket buttons that attach when the flap is opened, and the inside pockets are also old French shell buttons.
The buttonholes and button closures are hand-sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. I think you can feel something like warmth that cannot be produced by a machine.
The shoulder belt is designed to be fastened by passing it through a hole and tying it. You can adjust it to your desired length by tying the knot.
Compared to today's prosperous times, people were poor and that was all they had, and the world was completely different from what was expected of them. I feel it.
Why not try incorporating good old things that are not found in modern times into your daily life?
*This work was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You may not be able to tell at first glance, but we hope you enjoy the "fluctuation" seams that are produced by hand rather than electric power.
*The fabric is over 100 years old. In order to enjoy it for a long time to come, please soak it in the wash before washing, and spin it gently by placing it in a net for dehydration.
Please feel free to contact noraadd.1118@gmail.com for any inquiries regarding the work .
