This is a casquette made using old Japanese silk cloth.

The fabric is a silk kimono that was worn from the Taisho to early Showa eras.

The black silk weft threads are arranged with slight gaps between them, while the warp threads are made of black silk and a heathered yarn made by twisting black and white threads together, creating a striped pattern. In modern terms, it could be called a salt-and-pepper striped fabric. It has the smooth, light texture of silk, a slight sheen, and a strong presence that seems to ooze from within, making it a great fabric. It is barely used, so the fabric still feels firm, and I think it will soften and become more comfortable with wear.

The fabric used for the lining is also old silk of about the same age, and the other parts such as the suberi (inner tape) and piping tape are all made from old Japanese fabric. Although they are not visible, matching the tastes creates a sense of unity.

Compared to today's affluent times, the texture of fabrics born in harsh times when people were poor and had nothing but what was common in the world is completely different. You can feel the unique atmosphere of that era, which you couldn't create even if you wanted to, and I think Japanese fabrics are wonderful, elaborate fabrics that can be proudly shown to the world. Please try and feel the fabric that has been reborn as a hat.
