 This hat is made using old Japanese indigo-dyed cotton/linen fabric.

At first glance, the plain indigo-dyed fabric looks simple, but it is an antique cloth that exudes an aura of some kind from within. The unique texture of the fabric gives it the movement that only linen can offer, and the densely woven fabric with thick threads gives it a heavy feel, creating a unique atmosphere not found in modern times.

The warp threads are cotton and the weft threads are hemp. The deep, slightly purple indigo dye is still intact, so I think it will age beautifully over time as it adapts to the wearer's lifestyle.

The fabric used for the lining is a vintage cotton/silk cloth from around the early Showa period, and the other parts such as the suberi (inner tape) and piping tape are all made from vintage Japanese fabric. Although these are parts that cannot be seen, matching the tastes creates a sense of unity.

Compared to today's affluent times, the texture of fabrics born in harsh times when people were poor and had nothing but what was common in the world is completely different. You can feel the unique atmosphere of that era, which you couldn't create even if you wanted to, and I think Japanese fabrics are wonderful, elaborate fabrics that can be proudly shown to the world. Please try and feel the fabric that has been reborn as a hat.

 *The fabric is nearly 100 years old. To ensure you can enjoy it for many years to come, we recommend washing it in a soaking wash and gently spin-drying it in a laundry net.
