Using the cotton coats worn after the war in Japan as the design source, I added details that I liked, and created this piece using old Japanese cotton indigo-dyed cloth, imagining the somewhat loose atmosphere of an old item.

Raglan sleeves, chin strap collar design, arm circumference and body width are just the right size and silhouette without being too big.

The fabric used is an old indigo-dyed cotton cloth woven in the early Showa period.

Since making a coat requires a large amount of fabric, two types of indigo-dyed old cloth are used to create one coat. Although the fabrics have a similar feel, the softness of the fabrics was different, so I placed sewn fabrics scattered throughout the coat to create a balance.

The indigo dyeing is still intact, so I think it will get used to the wearer over the years, depending on the lifestyle of the person wearing it, and it will change in a good way over time.

The entire lining is also made from Japanese old cloth. The inside of the body is made of old white cotton cloth, and the inside of the sleeves is made of old linen cloth with a striped pattern. I wanted to play around with the pattern and material on the white lining, and I also wanted the sleeves to go through easily, so I used old linen cloth for the lining of the sleeves.

The buttons are old Japanese wood buttons dyed with ink , and the power buttons are shell buttons, each of which is attached by hand with a neck wrap. The buttonholes and button closures are hand-sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. I think you can feel something like warmth that cannot be produced by a machine.

Cotton thread is used to match the vintage atmosphere.

Compared to today's prosperous times, the fabrics that were born in harsh times when people were poor and had nothing else but the world was completely different, have a unique atmosphere that can only be created at that time even if you wanted to, and I think that Japanese fabrics are wonderful fabrics that are made by people and can be proud of to the world. Please feel the fabric that has been reborn as a coat .

*This piece was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You might not be able to tell at first glance, but we hope you enjoy the loose seams that are produced by hand rather than electric power.

*This is a fabric that is over 100 years old. In order to enjoy it for a long time to come, please soak it in the wash before washing, and spin it gently by placing it in a net for dehydration.
