The detailed specifications are those of a jacket worn in Japan after the war, but I packed it with details that I like, and created this piece using old Japanese wool fabric, imagining the relaxed atmosphere of old items.

It features short raglan sleeves and a relaxed silhouette around the arms and chest.

The fabric is made from two unwrapped tobi coats worn in the 1940s and 1950s.

The body is made of soft wool, woven with white, black, and brown threads. The subtle brown threads add a nice accent, creating a deep look.

The sleeves are made of wool gabardine, a fabric originally used for coats, giving it a thick, stately feel.

Both coats were found in the homes of former wealthy merchants, and were custom-made in an era when ready-made coats were not available. It is understandable why this fabric is not often seen used for tobi coats.

At first glance, it may look like a fabric that is still being woven in modern times, but the atmosphere that exudes from it is unique to something so ancient, giving it a special presence.

It is fully lined and the lining is made from the same fabric as the coat, and the collar strap is also made from brass, which is probably what was used for the coat.

The buttons are old Japanese wooden buttons dyed with ink , and the power buttons are shell buttons, each attached by hand with a root wrap. The buttonholes and bar closures are hand-sewn to match the atmosphere of the old fabric. You can feel a warmth that cannot be achieved by machine.

Cotton thread is used to match the vintage atmosphere.

Compared to today's affluent times, the texture of fabrics born in harsh times when poverty was the only thing available and the norms of the world were completely different gives off a unique atmosphere that cannot be replicated even if you wanted to, and I believe that Japanese fabrics are exquisite, elaborate fabrics that can be proudly presented to the world. Please try and feel the fabric that has been reborn as a jacket.

*This piece was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You might not notice it at first glance, but I hope you enjoy the loose stitches that can only be achieved by hand, not by electricity.

*The fabric is over 100 years old. To ensure you can enjoy it for many years to come, please wash it by soaking it in water and spin it gently in a laundry net.
