NORA SMOCK~japan old cotton fabric~②
This item is made using old Japanese safflower-dyed cotton cloth and is based on a French fisherman's smock.
The fabric used is a safflower-dyed cotton fabric from the early Showa period.
I only had fabric that had faded nicely for the body, so I cut the fabric that still had some color on the sleeves to make the first outfit.
The fabric I used for the front was a little thin, so I used safflower fabric for the back to make it thicker, making it two-layered. Even if it gets scratched or has holes due to wear, the same fabric will still show through, so I think it will look good over time.
When I finished washing it, the color of the water turned a lot red, so I think the color may easily come off. We hope that you don't take the fact that the color easily fades as a negative, but instead enjoy the way the color balance of the body and sleeves blends and changes with repeated washing.
Old French bone buttons are used for the front buttons and flap buttons, and glass buttons are used for the power buttons, each of which is attached by hand with a root wrap. The buttonholes and button closures are hand-sewn to match the feel of the old fabric. I think you can feel something like warmth that cannot be produced by a machine.
Cotton thread is used to match the vintage atmosphere.
I think that Japanese fabrics are good fabrics with a carefully crafted expression that can be proud of around the world. Please try incorporating good old items that have been reborn as clothes into your daily life.
*This piece was sewn using an old treadle sewing machine. You might not be able to tell at first glance, but we hope you enjoy the ``fluctuation''-like seams that are produced by hand rather than electric power.
*This is old fabric. In order to enjoy it for a long time to come, please soak it in the wash before washing, and spin it gently by placing it in a net for dehydration.
Both the front and back are made of safflower-dyed fabric, so the water turns red when washed. Please wash separately as the color may transfer to other laundry items.
